Dr. Shashank Nigam

Dr. Nigam did his masters in General Surgery from King George’s Medical University, Lucknow, which is a premiere institute of Northern India. He was a trainee in Surgical Oncology at the renowned Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, following which he got enrolled into 3 years of rigorous fellowship in Surgical Oncology with special interest in Breast Surgery from Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, a tertiary cancer care centre of Eastern India. Here he gained experience in various organ-specific cancer treatments with special focus on complex surgeries, multi-disciplinary and evidence based management of cancer. He then went to the celebrated Oxford University Hospital in Oxfordshire, UK for higher training in Breast Oncoplastic techniques, where he did a fellowship for more than a year. He has also been an honorary observer at the prestigious Royal Marsden Hospital, Chelsea Unit in London. In addition, he holds the Membership of Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (MRCS), has qualified National Board of Examination (DNB) in General Surgery and is a member of National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS). He is a lifetime member of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Indian Association of Surgical Oncology (IASO), European Society of Surgical Oncology (ESSO) as well as the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). Apart from clinical work, he is also a very keen researcher, with several publications to his credit, and has contributed chapters in distinguished text books as a co-author. His areas of special interest include: • Holistic management of all organ-site cancers • Surgeries for Breast, Head & Neck, Gastrointestinal, Gynecological, Urological malignancies and Soft tissue sarcomas • Benign breast disease, breast pain and breast lump • Oncoplastic breast conservative surgery • Sentinel lymph node biopsy • Reduction and Augmentation mammoplasty for cosmetic and functional breast problems • Skin sparing mastectomy with reconstruction • Nipple areolar reconstruction • Use of prostheses and implants • Symmetrization surgery for the Contralateral Breast • Management of lymphedema
